RC37 and RC40 Build Momentum Toward Rome 2027 Following Acapulco Symposium

Fresh off a successful joint symposium in Acapulco, RC37 (Rethinking Political Development) and RC40 (New World Orders?) are planning a new round of collaborative activities ahead of the 2027 IPSA World Congress in Rome.
RC37 Rethinking Political Development, working alongside RC40 New World Orders?, continues to expand its global reach by connecting political science research with public governance, interregional cooperation, and global policy challenges. Building on the success of our joint 2026 International Symposium held in Acapulco, Mexico, in April 2026, the two committees are already preparing a new series of collaborative academic and policy-oriented initiatives for late 2026 and into 2027.
Fostering Dialogue and Practical Governance
Organized in partnership with the Instituto Internacional de Estudios Políticos Avanzados (IIEPA-IMA-UAGro) and the Autonomous University of Guerrero, the April symposium drew scholars, public officials, practitioners, and students from multiple regions to examine how interregional cooperation can drive political and socio-economic development. Discussions ranged across geopolitical transformations, climate resilience, public administration innovation, social inclusion, sustainable development, and emerging security challenges. Prof. Jesús Tovar's opening keynote set the tone, emphasizing the need to build bridges between distinct institutions, nations, and research communities.
The symposium's academic leadership — Peter Rada (Chair, RC40) and Yan Vaslavskiy (Chair, RC37) — worked with Prof. Tovar, Ms. Laura Mondragón, and the IIEPA-IMA-UAGro team to link scholarly reflection with real-world institutional engagement. A highlight of this practical outreach was an executive workshop on National Security and the Environment, delivered to mayors and senior public officials from the State of Guerrero, drawing on comparative public administration perspectives from Canadian and Québec governance practice.
Looking Toward Rome 2027
RC37 and RC40 are now developing further interregional activities focused on climate resilience, governance innovation, public leadership, and international cooperation. Preparatory discussions are underway for collaborative panels, thematic workshops, and policy-oriented exchanges tied to the 29th IPSA World Congress of Political Science in Rome (24–28 July 2027).
Members and interested colleagues are encouraged to watch for upcoming IPSA announcements and official committee communications for participation opportunities.
